RSPCA Queensland recently revealed that last year 274 animals were given over to its Wacol shelter in Queensland due to rental issues.

Unlike New York and Paris, where animals are allowed to live in apartments, it seems here in Australia a lot of homeowners won’t even consider renting their property to a pet owner. Sadly, this has resulted in many pet owners being forced to give their pet to an animal shelter.

“Of course, there are certain types of dogs not ideal for apartment living. Great Danes and greyhounds are very chilled and only need to be walked once a day, so they would be perfect—despite what people think about their size,” says RSPCA Queensland media spokesperson Michael Beatty.

In a bid to help the situation for Brisbane renters, the Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is holding a Mega Adoption Drive this weekend to help re-house cats and dogs that are facing the push due to strict no-pet rental rules.

To help see hundreds of cats and dogs find homes for Christmas the AWLQ is offering vastly reduced adoption prices—mixed-breed dogs are $50 and cats are $30. Check out the AWLQ Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/AWLQLD
