{"id":1193,"date":"2019-02-07T05:59:42","date_gmt":"2019-02-07T05:59:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zookie.com.au\/?page_id=1193"},"modified":"2024-01-03T10:49:43","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T10:49:43","slug":"adopt-dont-shop-for-a-pet","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.zookie.com.au\/pawesome\/news\/adopt-dont-shop-for-a-pet\/","title":{"rendered":"Adopt, don&#8217;t shop for a pet"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"news\">\n<p class=\"txt\">Saturday February 9th is <strong>National Pet Adoption Da<\/strong>y\u2014an initiative run by PETstock Assist and animal adoption site <a title=\"PetRescue\" href=\"https:\/\/www.petrescue.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PetRescue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"txt\">National Pet Adoption Day, which is now in its fifth year, encourages Aussies to drop any preconceptions they might have about rescue pets and to visit their local <a title=\"PETstock\" href=\"https:\/\/www.petstock.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PETstock<\/a> store this coming Saturday (Feb 9th, 2019) to meet rescue fur babies big and small.<\/p>\n<p class=\"txt\">PETstock Assist Charity and Events Coordinator, Jess Guilfoyle, says, \u201c<strong>Every pet is unique and individual<\/strong>, and I encourage people considering a new pet to keep an open mind \u2013 you may just be surprised by who you fall for.<\/p>\n<p class=\"txt\">\u201cLove really does know no breed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"txt\">Animal behaviourist Dr Kate Mornement says <strong>there are many more important factors than breed\u00a0that determine a pet\u2019s personality and temperament<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"txt\">\u201cPersonality and temperament are also influenced by previous experiences and individual\u00a0differences. This is why you get so much variation both within and between breeds,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"txt\">\u201cMany well socialised and trained pets find themselves in need of a new home. Even those pets that\u00a0may not have had a great start to life can become wonderful companions. With some love and\u00a0guidance, their personalities shine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"txt\">PetRescue co-founder Vickie Davy adds, \u201cI hope by encouraging people to look for an individual pet rather than a particular breed we can educate people on the incredible benefits of adopting a pet in need.<\/p>\n<p class=\"txt\">\u201cJust like humans, personality is individual and it\u2019s what\u2019s on the inside that counts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"txt\">National Pet Adoption Day is taking place this Saturday (Feb 9, 2019) at <a title=\"PETstock\" href=\"https:\/\/www.petstock.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PETstock<\/a> stores nationwide from 10am-2pm.
