A look back at the Dog Lovers Show

Want to know what went down at the Melbourne Dog Lovers Show?

Last weekend dog lovers from all over Victoria converged on the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne, for the annual Dog Lovers Show.

If you love man’s best friend and haven’t yet been to the Show, this is a definite dairy date to add into next year’s calendar. Luckily for me, I was there and able to take in all the canine sights and doggy wonders that were on display.

There were awesome dog treats, premium brands of dog food, natural treatment alternatives to itchy skin, joint care and shampoo, as well as anything else that was even remotely related to dogs. While a main part of the Show is the stores, the real show stopper is the Arena and the Celebrity Vet Show, sponsored by KONG.

Seeing Dr Harry from Better Homes and Gardens up close and personal was great and, no surprise, a big hit with the audience.

Meanwhile, in the Arena there was the ‘Meet the Breeds’ dog show, the Guinness world record attempt of highest dog jumps and Guide Dogs Victoria showing their skills and training. While all were good, my personal fave was meeting the different breeds of dogs.

A big part of the exhibition rests on educating visitors about dogs. If you were toying with the idea of getting a dog, the Dog Lovers Show would really help you make an educated decision. The perfect match wall, a bit like Zookie’s Breed Selector, helped match potential pet parents with their ‘pawfect’ breed of canine.

Once you had a few possible breeds in mind you could go meet them—but, of course, visiting each and every dog club in Victoria can be time consuming, so I hopped over to Pat-a-Pooch where yes, as the name suggests, I got to pat a few doggies.

For anyone and everyone who loves dogs, the Dog Lovers Show is a great—and informative—day out. It’s an awesome chance to learn about a dog’s behaviour, explore dog breeds, get the lowdown on the latest products on the market and meet fellow dog lovers. What’s not to love?!

Perhaps I’ll see you at the Melbourne Dog Lovers Show next year!
